Past Chairman Jewel

Past Chairman Mike Pearson Jr.
receives his Past Chairman Jewel

It took us awhile to get it to him...but after long last, Chairman Tim Ogrentz pinned Mike with his pin at the September business meeting.  Micheal Pearson Jr. was elected Chairman of Nordik Folk No. 761 for 3 years from 2012-2014. Before that, he served at Assistant Master of Ceremonies from 2006-2008 and also performed with Nordikids Musiklubb for many years.  Mike was initiated into the Lodge on January 29, 2006 as a charter member. Currently, Mike Pearson Jr. is serving  District Lodge Lake Michigan No. 8 as a Board Member.
Mike graduated in 2014 from Purdue University Calumet with a BA in Visual Communications & graphic design.  He minored in advertising. He recently started working for Worldwide Advertising Agency in Chicago as Junior Art Director.  He is very active in our lodge and district.
Congratulation to Mike on all of his accomplishments and a huge "tack så mycket" from all of us here at Nordik Folk No. 761.

World Cultural Festival-Valparaiso

Nordik Folk and Nordikids spent this glorious September 19th Saturday participating in the Valparaiso International Center's "World Culture Festival."

As the only group representing the Scandinavian countries, our Nordic contingent got quite a bit of attention.  Phyllis Kalajian sold her Scandinavian jewelry, Nordik Folk members passed out lodge information and sold various craft items, Lynda Smith shared pepparkakor, Herb Smith wowed in his Viking garb and battle axe, and as usual...the Nordikids entertained marvelously.

Nordik Folk members at hand:  Lynda and Herb Smith, Phyllis Kalajian, Shelly Pehlgrim, Janice Tomky, Tonia Tomky, Lynda and Herb Smith, Joanne Ortman, Ingrid Lesko, Lisa Pearson, Lynnea Sinwelski, and Annalisa Blue.

Scandiavian Craft Club

Scandinavian Craft Night

Dala horse & Swedish bird felt craft brought  6 of our Nordik Folk out to Michael's Craft Store on September 17 to make lovely felted ornaments: Lynda Smith, Shelly Pehlgrim, Linnea Ogrentz, Jean Oak, Elizabeth Flores and Shelly Westlund.  Each of us left with at least one completed ornament!
Thank you to Shelly Westlund for the craft idea, and also to Phyllis Kalajian for donating the ornament stuffing!
Our next craft night will be on Thursday, October 22 at 6:30-9 pm.  (craft project to-be-determined)

August 2015

August News & Events
A huge "GET WELL" to Lynda Smith who underwent surgery late in August and her husband Herb Smith who simultaneously was suffering from a leg infection.  We wish them a speedy, speedy recovery!

Kraftskiva

August is the month that we return to our regularly scheduled business meetings.  It had been discussed to do a Kraftskiva, but the planning got away from us with so much going on this summer...not to mention health issues for some of our prominent members.  We did manage to pull off a pretty decent crayfish taste testing at our meeting on August 17th.  Here are the Minutes to that meeting:
